Prescription Lenses

At the moment and most likely in the future, only prescription lenses from VROptician/VROptiker are officially supported. Inserts from other manufacturers have not been tested, and since their shapes and mounting systems probably differ, they are very unlikely to be compatible.

I have been using VROptiker lenses since I first got my Index, and I have always been satisfied with their quality as well as the excellent support I received while developing my modules. Together with survey results showing that around 60 percent of users who use prescription lenses rely on VROptiker inserts, this made them the most practical choice for official support.

I would love to support additional manufacturers in the future. However, the development effort and the logistical challenges involved make this unrealistic.

Legacy vs. Current Inserts

There are two different versions of VROptician and VROptiker inserts: Legacy and Current. If you are using the Legacy version, please note that it is not compatible with this kit! You will need to order the Current lenses to use it.

The easiest way to identify your version is to look at the position of the R or L marking in relation to the gap above it. If the letter sits completely below the opening and the opening extends further past the letter, you have the Current lenses. If the opening stops around the middle of the letter, you are using the Legacy lenses. Use the images below as a reference.
