Licensing

If you are a developer, contributor, or simply curious about the legal foundations of FaceFocusVR, this section outlines the project's licensing and trademark details. Understanding these terms is especially relevant if you are planning to modify, distribute, or build upon my hardware.

Please note that the licenses referenced here apply exclusively to the hardware components of FaceFocusVR. Any third-party software, such as EyetrackVR, Project Babble, or others that may be used in conjunction with FaceFocusVR, are governed by their own respective licenses and are explicitly excluded from the scope of the following terms.

Summary

What You Can Do

  • Use, modify, and distribute my hardware.
  • Create your own hardware based on FaceFocusVR, as long as you include the clear phrase "Based on FaceFocusVR" on the product and documentation, and you publish your changes under the same open license (CERN-OHL-S v2).
  • Contact the project owner if you need help assessing whether your design complies with the security standards required by FaceFocusVR.

What You Cannot Do

  • Do not use the name FaceFocusVR for branding, product names, or marketing.
  • Do not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or partnership with FaceFocusVR.
  • Do not modify, disable, or remove security features included in the original design. Doing so revokes your right to reference the FaceFocusVR name in any form.
  • Do not remove or obscure the "Based on FaceFocusVR" label unless the security compliance is broken, in which case you must remove it.
📌

Key Points

  • The name FaceFocusVR is a trademark of the project owner and is not part of the open hardware license. Unauthorized use of the name may result in legal action under applicable trademark and unfair competition laws.
  • All derivative projects must remain open source under the CERN-OHL-S v2 license.
  • These terms apply worldwide. Any disputes will be governed by German law.
